The Mind & Body
Quick Read:
If a tree was struggling to grow, we wouldn’t just examine the leaves. We would examine the roots, the soil, and the conditions of its environment. Is it getting enough sunlight? What happens when it gets too much rain, or when a branch breaks off? What do these conditions mean for the tree’s roots - how are they impacted? What do they need?
We’re not talking about trees.
It’s easy to view our minds and bodies separately, but it’s important to view ourselves as connected, whole beings.
What we see above the ground - our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors - is only part of the picture. What’s underground is our roots: our past experiences, learned patterns, and the ways our bodies have learned to respond to the world.
Our bodies hold onto experiences. This leads to specific emotional, cognitive, and behavioral patterns. Understanding ourselves more deeply involves looking beneath the surface. How do stress, anxiety, fear, sadness, other emotions, and past experiences show up in our bodies? When do they show up? What does that mean for us in the moment? What is our nervous system trying to tell us and what does it need?
Is it sounding an alarm based on a past experience? Does it need safety, deep breathing, or a boundary to be set?
Together in sessions we will unpack what your body is telling you, and what your emotions are telling your body.
Mental health isn’t just about your mind. It’s about your body too.
With love,
Grace
